Small Stitched Landscapes Workshop

Create four small fabric compositions full of texture, color and stitching inspired by nature. Learn intuitive tricks for design and composition. Explore several hand embroidery stitches. Combine various fabrics for maximum effect and detail.

Supplies

Purchase a Kit (Scroll down to order a kit.)
Kit Includes:

• Several small pieces of richly colored fabrics in a variety of colors and types (far more fabric than you’ll need for the workshop, but you’ll have lots of wonderful options and leftovers for more designs in the future)

• a small collection of specialty fabrics for details (sheers, burlap, cheese cloth and other inspiring textures)

• four 4x4 inch pre-fused felt bases for your fabric collages 

• several bobbins of embroidery floss

• hand embroidery needle

• all workshops handouts

Or Provide Your Own Fabric

• Richly colored solid (or tone-on-tone very small scale printed) fabric, eight to 10 colors in 6x6ish inch pieces or similar scraps

• Specialty fabric scraps — sheers, burlap, lace, cheese cloth and other materials with inspiring textures, four or five 6x6ish inch pieces or similar scraps

• Four 4x4 inch pieces of felt or batting

• 1/2 yard of fusible webbing I like Wonder Under. (Or use fusible batting.)

• embroidery floss and/or perle cotton — A sandwich size plastic bag full of floss will give you lots of options. Choose darks and lights in a variety of colors. If you don’t have embroidery floss in your stash, I suggest buying 3 to 5 skeins in a variety of colors.

• hand sewing needle that will fit your threads

Plus Everyone Needs

• iron and ironing surface

• scissors, large and small

• rotary cutter, ruler (6x12 is great), small rotary mat

• sketchbook, pen and pencil

Optional

• additional threads for hand embroidery, especially variegated options

• additional felt bases if you want to create more compositions during our time together

• additional hand embroidery needles that may accommodate different widths of thread

• thimble, needle threader and stitching glasses if you use them regularly

• sewing machine
