Small Art Quilts: Designing a Series

Create a complete series of fiber art incorporating common elements. Use the Elements and Principles of Design to direct improvisational compositions. Tons of ideas for completely busting through any creative blocks! No rules, just fun! Full of tips for easy construction and finishing. (This project can be created without a sewing machine!)

stART it up

Developed especially to get the creative juices flowing. No rules. It’s fun, playful, and refreshing. If you’ve ever felt blocked by lack of ideas or overwhelmed with too many ideas, “stART it up” can get you going! We’ll discuss how to gather inspiring materials and what to do with them. Complete instructions for making a “handheld interactive inspiration book,” mail art, artist trading cards and notebook cover.

Layered Fabric Grid Collage

Create a dynamic art quilt based on a simple grid filled with complex textures and layers! Choose any size from a square wall quilt, to a table runner, to a long thin accent piece. We’ll work on several techniques including fusible appliqué, improvisational composition, layering with sheer materials, decorative edge finishing, quilting motifs and embellishing. Learn to embrace abstract design and complete a fantastic piece of art.

Landscape Triptych Quilt

Create an art quilt in three parts! The triptych is a classic format for artistic expression. We’ll create a landscape design that flows over three panels. Learn quick pattern making for fusible appliqué, incorporate elements of design, explore using unusual materials, create a clean fused finished edge and use hand embroidery for detail. Will you create a mountain vista? An ocean view? A hillside outlook? We’ll celebrate and create with confidence!
